My wife's family has always been into playing a variety of board and card games when we all get a chance to get together. I can play Monopoly until the cows come home, but when it comes to the card games... meh... not my cup of tea. My brother-in-law, a Texas Hold'em fanatic, decided to give me a copy of Sid Sackson's book, Card Games Around the World, as a gag gift. He said maybe if I had a world's worth of card games to choose from, I'd be able to find something we could play together that I'd actually like.
I chuckled and set it aside when we got home. My wife, however, being a card game queen, started thumbing through the book and before I knew it, I was hearing about games from Asia to Latin America. Along with the games from other countries, there are plenty of card games from the United States. The games range from two players to full tables and easy to advanced, so there really is something for everyone.
My wife's brother may have picked up Card Games Around the World as a joke, but it will be coming along with me to Thanksgiving this year. It's about time I win one!
